Community Impact
This Community Impact Initiative Gets a New Name
Palmetto GBA Associates marked the closure of the 2026 Community Impact Initiative at Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services (PAALS), where they presented a donation check for $3,000 and announced the name selected for one of the organization’s puppies: Zola.
PAALS trains service dogs for people with mobility disabilities, autism and post-traumatic stress disorder. The dogs learn to assist with daily tasks, helping their future partners live with greater independence. Preparing them for that role requires two years or more of training and care at a cost of around $50,000. Grants and donations make it possible for these highly trained dogs to be provided at no charge to the people they serve.
Throughout the campaign, associates volunteered, made monetary donations and purchased needed items from the organization’s Amazon wish list.
The third annual Battle of the Divisions added friendly competition to the campaign. Divisions earned points for associate participation in volunteer and donation opportunities, as well as their performance in the games. Divisions 1M and 6M came out on top. Not only did they win a trophy, but they also earned naming rights for a PAALS puppy. They chose Zola, a name associated with calmness and peace. It is a fitting choice for a future service dog being prepared to offer steady support to someone in the community.
The check presentation brought the initiative full circle. The donation will help PAALS train and care for its dogs and purchase needed supplies, extending the assistance associates provided throughout the campaign.
Congratulations Divisions 1M and 6M, and thank you to every associate who volunteered, donated or participated. Their involvement will help PAALS continue preparing service dogs for people who need them and gave this year’s Community Impact Initiative a lasting name: Zola.
