Community Impact
More Than a Meal: Division 54’s Ongoing Service at Transitions Homeless Center
By the end of a recent lunch hour at Transitions Homeless Center, Division 54 associates had served 184 people. The number captured the impact for people in the Columbia community, but not everything that gave it meaning. As associates prepared food and worked the serving line, those they served offered thanks – a simple exchange that reminded the volunteers why they continue to return.
For Division 54, this was not a one-time volunteer effort. The division’s associates volunteer at Transitions Day Center three to four times each year, coordinating their schedules and setting aside a few hours to help prepare and serve hot meals. In addition to receiving hot meals, adults experiencing homelessness can also access showers, laundry services, computers, clothing and meet with case managers at the Day Center. Division 54’s regular involvement has helped them build a positive relationship with the organization.
“Supporting our community and assisting those experiencing hardship is truly meaningful to each of us,” Shanika Goggins of Division 54 shared.
Through their ongoing work at Transitions, Division 54 associates put Palmetto GBA’s value of Service into action beyond the workplace and into the Columbia community.
