Palmetto GBA: 2022 Best of Philanthropy Awards

Palmetto GBA employees strive to improve the quality of life in the places they call home by creating livable, equitable, and vibrant communities. They do this by getting engaged with and supporting nonprofit organizations that improve lives. While mainly focused on health and human service organizations, employees have supported organizations ranging from education to animal welfare.

This year, Palmetto GBA employees’ commitment to their communities was demonstrated through their participation in over twenty-one projects, their countless volunteer hours, and their efforts to collect and distribute over 1,200 items and $6,700 in donations.

Central Carolina Community Foundation staff reviewed this year’s Best of Philanthropy Award nominations and after much discussion and deliberation, chose two Best of Philanthropy winners. And the winners are…

This year’s Best of Philanthropy – Treasure Award winner is Division 93!

The ‘treasure’ donated by members of Division 93 has impacted individuals and families across Augusta, Georgia, and the Central Savannah River Area.

In October, 32 Division 93 associates participated in the Golden Harvest Food Bank of the CSRA’s “It’s Spooky to Be Hungry” campaign. The associates collected close to fifty cans of food and over $740 in donations for the food bank. The associates also applied for and received a corporate sponsorship of $5,000 for the campaign. Thanks to their fundraising efforts, the food bank was able to feed over 2,200 individuals.

In December, Augusta Operation associates participated in Salvation Army’s Angel Tree. They bought gifts for children ranging from two to twelve years old. They also purchased holiday gifts for twenty-five adopted angels, children ranging from three months to twelve years old. Their ‘treasure’ helped fifty children experience the joy and magic of the holidays.

Congratulations and thank you to Division 93 for your generosity!

Our 2022 Best of Philanthropy-Gift of Treasure Award winners, Division 93, presented a donation check to the Burn Foundation of America to support their goal of providing assistance, comforts, and essential services to burn patients and their families.

This year’s Best of Philanthropy – Time and Talent Award winner is Division 10!

Division 10 associates launched their philanthropic initiatives in April with the BlueCross BlueShield Day of Service. This was followed in May when thirty-five employees volunteered at the Columbia International Festival, an event that showcases the music, culture, food, and performing arts of our state's diverse cultures and nationalities. It also displayed Division 10’s commitment to diversity.

Throughout the spring and summer months, Division 10 associates participated in the Soles4Souls Shoe Collection Drive collecting 480 pairs of shoes for children, men, and women. In the fall and early winter, Division 10 employees supported several events and supply drives including Prisma Health Breast Center’s 32nd Walk for Life and Famously Hot Pink Half-Marathon and 5K, Edward E. Taylor Elementary School Boys and Girls Club food drive, and Palmetto Project Families Helping Families holiday gift drive. These coordinated efforts - time and talent on display – positively impacted folks in need.

In December, GBA employees participated in the annual National Wreaths Across America Day at Fort Jackson National Cemetery to honor service members who sacrificed their lives to preserve our freedoms. The volunteers served in a variety of roles to assist with the wreath-laying ceremony – a gift of time that touched lives and demonstrated that service and sacrifice will always be remembered and honored.

Congratulations and thank you to Division 10 for your gifts of time and treasure.

Our 2022 Best of Philanthropy-Time and Talent Award winners, Division 10, presented donation checks to Healthy Learners, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Camp Cole to support their services in our local communities.
