Meet Army Veteran and Nurse, Adrian Dorman Rossi, RN/BSN

What is your name and what do you do at Palmetto GBA?
Hi there! I am Adrian Dorman Rossi, RN/BSN, Medical Reviewer II for Home Health Review Choice Demonstration. I have been at Palmetto GBA since September 2021.

What branch of service were you in? How long were you in the military?
I was on active duty in the United States Army from 2007 to 2010

Why did you select Palmetto GBA as your career?
I decided years ago that I wanted to find a work-from-home career to foster a better work and life-balance. I lived in a rural area at the time and spent a lot of my day commuting in dangerous traffic to my hospital position. Which in turn added to my stress and took even more time away from my family. In January 2019, I got into a serious car accident and decided that I have had enough of driving my dangerous daily commute. I also knew that I needed to be more present for my son. My husband is a firefighter and paramedic, and he works very long hours. I felt that neither he nor I were truly available for our son and that was unacceptable. The thought of using my unique skill set and my "nursing brain" for a medical review position with Palmetto GBA appealed to me, so I kept applying until I got an interview.

What benefits or skills offered appealed to you when you applied?
I was very impressed with the benefits package. The Paid Time Off (PTO) rate is great, and the paid holidays were perfect for spending more time with my family.

How have the skills you learned in the military transferred over to your career at Palmetto GBA?
The Army taught me that self-discipline, integrity, being decisive, and being able to function independently as well as in a group setting were extremely important. Those skills are invaluable to me in my position at Palmetto GBA.

Was your first job after the military with Palmetto GBA? If so, how was the transition from military to Palmetto GBA?
No, I have had several jobs since I left the Army. I have worked in bedside surgical nursing, clinical quality, and case management/utilization review since that time. I do feel that transitioning from the military is always difficult, as the military is quite different than the civilian world in many ways. However, I think that Palmetto GBA is a wonderful place for a veteran to work. This company shows more appreciation for Veterans than anywhere I have ever worked in my life. It is an amazing environment for all veterans, including disabled veterans. I feel that Palmetto GBA encourages veterans to use their unique skill sets and abilities. They also have leadership teams that are flexible and understanding, there is a positive work environment, and hard work is valued as well as rewarded. All these things would be appealing to a Veteran.

What would you say to veterans who are looking and considering Palmetto GBA as their next career move?
I would say, do it! I have had nothing but great experiences with this company. They love their employees, they respect and admire veterans, they have a great benefits package, and the schedules are accommodating. They recognize their employees for their contributions regularly and truly care about our wellbeing.
