Palmetto GBA Retains Two Key Contracts

Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor

Since 2006, Palmetto GBA has served as the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC). Our team has consistently facilitated competitive bidding rounds, evaluated and recommended qualified suppliers, set payment rates for bidding areas and supported the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) education initiatives. Following the successful migration of CBIC applications and data to the AWS GovCloud, CMS awarded Palmetto GBA a 17-month contract extension. Preparations are underway for Round 2028.

Coverage Gap Discount Program

Palmetto GBA’s administration of Third Party Administrator (TPA) began in 2012, with subsequent awards in 2016 and 2021.  While the contract has recently expanded to include additional workloads and new capabilities, its responsibilities continue to encompass Medicare Drug Manufacturing invoicing activities, including the Coverage Gap Discount Program, the Medicare Inflation Rebate Program, the Discarded Drug Program and the Medicare Part D Manufacturer Discount Program. Through these programs, the contract facilitates payments for over 1,400 participants and manages the tracking of billions of dollars in quarterly invoices.

Recently, CMS redesignated the TPA contract as the Coverage Gap Discount Program (CGDP) and awarded Palmetto GBA a two-year sole source contract, reflecting our strong performance and adaptability in supporting Medicare’s evolving needs.
