Palmetto GBA awarded Jurisdiction J A/B MAC Contract

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Palmetto GBA the Jurisdiction J (JJ) A/B Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) contract, which covers Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee and serves more than two million beneficiaries, 66,000 physicians, and 400 hospitals. CMS first awarded the contract to Palmetto GBA in 2018. The seven-year contract expired, and a new procurement was conducted.

The JJ contract is Palmetto GBA’s second largest and encompasses comprehensive Medicare Parts A and B administrative services such as provider enrollment, outreach, and education, claims processing, appeals, provider medical review, and audit and reimbursement. The team also provides extensive customer service support through various channels, ensuring the highest level of service for the most complex components of the Medicare program. In 2023, the JJ team processed 66.8 million claims and managed over 425,000 inquiries.

The same year, CMS entrusted Palmetto GBA’s team to launch a new Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) program for Inpatient Joe Johnson, President and COORehabilitation Facility (IRF) services in JJ. This initiative aims to ensure accurate payments, reduce Medicare appeals, improve provider compliance, and prevent delays in care for Medicare beneficiaries.

About the award, Joe Johnson, President and COO, emphasized, “The most important factor to Palmetto GBA retaining this contract are our amazing employees. We strive to provide excellent performance and outstanding customer service to our primary customers, CMS, and the Jurisdiction J provider community.”
