100 Miles to Help End Cancer – Daniel Fulton’s Pelotonia Weekend

Dan1160.934 kilometers, 176,000 yards, 528,000 feet, or 100 miles, no matter how you say it, 100 miles is an extensive distance, and that is how far Project Manager Dan Fulton rode in this year’s Pelotonia - Ride to End Cancer.

Since 2011, Dan has ridden the Pelotonia, with tags on his bike honoring those who fought the disease. On January 21, 2021, with the Pelotonia just seven months away, Dan received the sobering news that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Not to be discouraged, he knew that this year's ride would be more significant than ever. Within four months, Dan underwent surgery to remove the cancer. On August 7, 2021, on behalf of more than 250 individuals honored on his bike, and with his name added, Dan started his 100-mile Pelotonia ride to help end cancer.

Dan finds motivation not only from the honorees that he is supporting or the donators that are supporting him, but he also finds it from his family. During the ride, his wife Katie mentioned that his family would be along the route to cheer him on at specific points. Dan went through the ride looking out for his family for motivation, and to his surprise, he didn't see them at the first two spots they had mentioned meeting. Dan continued to ride to his next rest location and to his excitement, he saw his whole family including wife, sons, daughters-in-law, cousins, and even their dogs to support him during his ride. Dan was humbled and moved to see his family support him during this monumental ride, enough so that he finished strong with their motivation.

dan3Through his 100-mile ride, Dan raised a total of $6,115 from 85 donations to help fund research to end cancer, making this a truly memorable ride for all. Through family, friends, co-workers, and others, Dan has raised more than $43,000 since 2009 — 100% of which funds cancer research.
