Palmetto GBA Retains the Railroad Medicare Specialty Medicare Administrative Contractor (SMAC) Contract.

The Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) recently awarded Palmetto GBA a new ten-year contract to serve as the Railroad Medicare SMAC. The RRB is a federal agency which administers comprehensive retirement-survivor and unemployment-sickness benefit programs for railroad workers and their families under the Railroad Retirement and Railroad Unemployment Insurance Acts. Palmetto GBA has held the RRB SMAC since 2000 and performs Medicare Part B administrative services for Railroad Retirement beneficiaries nationwide. These services include claims processing; appeals; provider enrollment; customer service and web technology services; medical review, benefit integrity, document control and mail services, banking services, and Neal Burkhead, VP of Shared Servicesoverall financial management activities for more than 445,000 Railroad Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.
