Manager of the Quarter Antonio Wilson steps up to helm complex project
Antonio Wilson, Camden Document Control Center Manager, is a quiet man of few words. An 18-year employee of Palmetto GBA, he is described as “one of those silent great performers who goes about his job without a lot of fanfare.” Hence Wilson’s surprise when he was named Palmetto GBA’s Manager of the Quarter for the first quarter of the year.
“I’m always lowkey, so I felt very honored,” Wilson said. “When you hear of other people being recognized this way, the work they’re doing is more visible.”
Wilson manages a team of nearly 50 employees who receive, review and process Medicare documents. He also stepped up this year when his former director Charles Palmieri retired. Wilson assumed some of Palmieri’s duties, including taking charge of the Aged Records Disposal Initiative (ARDI) with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. This ongoing project involves tracking offsite records for Jurisdiction J and M contracts and determining which can be destroyed, according to Elaine Garrick, Vice President of Support Operations and Wilson’s current manager.
“That is the watered-down description of a huge, time-consuming project that Antonio is somehow able to keep up with,” Garrick said.
Working closely with his predecessor was the key to taking over the ARDI, according to Wilson.
“Charlie always kept me informed about the ARDI,” he said. “Being involved and working with him side by side really helped me when it came time to inherit the project.”
And Wilson works to keep the nearly 50 employees he manages informed as well. That, he says, is the key to good leadership.
“Make sure you establish a good support team,” Wilson said. “If you have a supportive, empowered team, you can feel confident in delegating certain tasks and having them help out when the plate is really overflowing.”
