Every Child Should Have A Bike: A Toys for Tots Program
A bike might not seem like much to an adult, but for a child, it could mean everything. The idea of having a bike could mean adventure, exploration, time with friends, acceptance, and more. That's why we are so excited that Division 34’s Paige Easley and friends have continued to support, for the sixth year, providing bicycles to the Marine Toys for Tots campaign.
The basic mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas. Since 2001, the Marine Toys for Tots Program has ranked as one of the top-rated charities according to Philanthropy 400.
This year, over 250 boys’ and girls’ bicycles accounting for over $24,000 were donated and to date over 1,600 bicycles, along with helmets and locks, have been provided to the Marine Toys for Tots Program. Members of the local community come out to provide the over 300 hours of labor to assemble the bikes, which, once completed, are picked up by the Marine Reserves. This project is based on the idea that a bicycle for a child is life-altering and great for physical and mental health.
