Process Improvement of the Quarter
Random Selection of Document Control Numbers for Ongoing Quality Control Review
Team members: Kerri Martin, Sarah Medeiros, Rachel Payne
In the past, medical reviewers (MRs) were trained on all procedures in one session, but as the program grew from five to eight services, training was divided into smaller segments. MRs had to show they were competent in one set of procedures before moving on to the next. The quality control process involved generating reports to check accuracy, but the reporting tool (BOXI) didn’t filter data by procedure type or handle multiple reviewers at once. This made the process time-consuming.
To solve the problem, the team had a BOXI specialist modify the report so it will allow filtering by type of service and enable requests for multiple MRs, instead of one at a time. The new process increased accuracy because it offered a better representation of the MRs’ quality based on specific services. It also saved time and reduced costs through efficiency, earning them the Process Improvement of the Quarter award.
