Team of the Quarter – Review Choices Demonstration (RCD) Medical Review
The RCD Medical Review Additional Document Requests (ADR) Team supports each other to ensure their goals are met regardless of the challenges they encounter. When a workaround was needed, the team manually entered large amounts of data, ensuring timely processing. When a surge of aging claims came in, the team pulled together to complete all reviews on time. The team met its goals and supported a new ADR management team. By providing invaluable help to the new supervisors, the team facilitated a smooth transition. We are proud of this team and their dedication to their customers and each other.
Process Improvement of the Quarter – Quality Assurance and Training Team
Over the past couple of years, training classes for new medical reviewers have changed from onsite to virtual. This shift resulted in the need for the development and implementation of an RCD pre-claim review (PCR) training syllabus curriculum to provide consistency and quality among training classes. Post implementation, the six-week curriculum and syllabus included detailed daily schedules for the instructors and weekly schedules for the trainees as well as incremental goals. This provides an objective way to assess and document each trainee’s performance and to identify areas needing further reinforcement. Once a trainee has completed their courses, a post-training survey is completed by the new hire medical reviewers. The instructors set up a time to review these surveys with staff development management, where they work together to identify any areas for improvement for future classes. This new process improvement provides consistent, effective, and organized training for new medical reviewers through the use of standardized formats and tools, as well as minimizes downtime.
