Division 10 NSC Support Team earns accolades during third quarter

Palmetto GBA employees come together to streamline monthly reporting process

Our day-to-day operations see a lot of data transferred among different departments. That data often must be formatted and delivered in specific formats, depending on the recipients. These requirements are why it is such an accomplishment when Palmetto GBA employees find ways to automate processes while maintaining accuracy.

The National Supplier Clearinghouse (NSC) is required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide monthly reports showing all work that has been received, completed or is pending. Historically, the process involved the NSC retrieving a spreadsheet from the drilldown tool that would then be sent to the Medicare Statistical Analysis Department (MSAD) to compile the data needed for reporting. Next, the data was manually transferred to the CMS Monthly Production Report spreadsheet with manual calculations to complete the report.

To improve the process, a group of employees collaborated to find a way to automate this process to reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the CMS Monthly Production Report. The team created formulas building them into the monthly report spreadsheet to streamline the data entry and calculation processes. Once the data is entered into the first section of the spreadsheet, it now autopopulates the remaining two sections of the report. The implementation of this process improvement not only saves time in completing the monthly report but also reduces the potential for errors and eliminates the need to enter the same information multiple times in a single report. This clever implementation improved the way monthly reports are completed and earned this group the Division 10 Process Improvement of the Quarter.
