Paying it forward at the Good Samaritan Clinic
Many in our communities cannot afford traditional health care or do not have access to health care. Some are afraid to seek medical treatment. The Good Samaritan Clinic in Columbia, SC provides care to such people, free of charge with no questions asked.
The 100 percent volunteer staff comprises physicians, non-physician providers, interpreters, educators, administrators and nurses who give their time and expertise to help those in need. Palmetto GBA employee Cona Rundlett is one of those many volunteers.
Cona, a registered nurse and medical reviewer, volunteers to educate clinic patients on illnesses that can have a significant impact on their daily lives.
“Hypertension and diabetes are at the top of the undiagnosed illnesses that we treat and where we can measure a drastic improvement in client health,” she said.
Cona also helps educate clinic patients on the resources available to them, including how to access their medications at a lower cost.
“It’s a wonderful way to pay it forward,” she said. “I am blessed to be able to serve in this way.”
